Hello and welcome to the Greenfox Schools Blog!

I am Kristen von Hoffmann, President of Greenfox Schools and author of this blog. Today is the first entry I’ll be writing for our company, and I thought it would be best to explain the purpose of our blog, and to introduce myself and give a little background for those who are interested in knowing where the roots of Greenfox began, and what our company stands for.

Purpose of the Blog:

I intend for the Greenfox Schools Blog to address current issues in sustainability as the Sustainable Movement (or Green Revolution) continues to grow locally, nationally, and globally. Since Greenfox Schools works directly with schools to initiate sustainability through design and practice, my focus is on the education perspective within the Sustainable Movement. The Greenfox Schools Blog may also be a forum for updates on Greenfox projects, sustainability workshops, and environmental literature, as well.

Greenfox Schools, What We Do:

We are a small environmental consulting group providing solutions to help schools go green. The “Greenfox Five” is an original term that we use to define the five components of building design and system function that make up every school. They include: Energy, Waste Disposal, Food, Products, and Greenspace. As we view each school holistically, we apply the Greenfox Five to our analysis of a school’s current conditions when we perform an environmental audit or conduct a sustainability workshop, as this allows us to assess areas in need of environmental improvement.

We founded the company this past winter, and there are now six people including myself working on various projects. We come from a variety of backgrounds, joining our advanced degrees and field experience in the areas of education, sustainable design, environmental policy, law, and political science, all with a passion for positive change.
